SEC Enhances Capital Market Participation with New Initiatives
Share

The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has unveiled a new initiative, #InvestNigeria, to encourage Nigerians to participate in the capital market. The campaign, according to SEC’s Director-General, Emomotimi Agama, aims to enhance financial literacy and attract investment through education and advertising.

Agama emphasized the importance of advertising in raising awareness about investment opportunities. “Advertising educates potential investors about the benefits and opportunities in the capital market, helping them understand investment products, risks, and rewards,” he stated.

The #InvestNigeria campaign highlights opportunities such as initial public offerings (IPOs), bonds, and mutual funds, positioning them as tools for economic growth. Agama explained that fostering investment could drive job creation, improve market liquidity, and boost Nigeria’s GDP.

“By attracting domestic and foreign investment, we increase capital formation and drive the development of the capital market,” he added.

The campaign also aims to promote transparency, competition, and accessibility in the market to make it more attractive to investors.

SEC plans to utilize a variety of media strategies, including social media campaigns, billboards, online advertisements, and email marketing, to reach a broader audience. Additionally, the Commission will partner with financial influencers, bloggers, and thought leaders to raise awareness and organize seminars, workshops, and conferences for potential investors.

“We are leveraging media coverage and partnerships to educate the public and increase understanding of the capital market,” Agama noted.

Investor education remains a key focus for the Commission. “Protecting investors begins with equipping them with the knowledge to make informed decisions,” Agama stressed.

In a bid to enhance trust and efficiency, SEC is also exploring the use of blockchain technology within the capital market. This step underscores its commitment to fostering innovation and transparency in the sector.

Through #InvestNigeria, SEC hopes to unlock new opportunities for Nigerians and businesses, strengthening the capital market as a driver of economic transformation.
