SEC Declares Unregistered Digital Investment Platforms Illegal Amid CBEX Collapse
Share

The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has issued a vital reminder to Capital Market Operators (CMOs) to finalize their annual registration renewals by January 31, 2025. The registration process will be open from January 1 to January 31, 2025, and must be completed via the SEC’s online portal at www.eportal.sec.gov.ng.

The SEC stresses that all CMOs must submit their 2025 annual subscription receipt from their trade groups alongside their renewal application. The Commission also noted that failure to meet the deadline would result in penalties, including being barred from participating in capital market activities.

This periodic registration renewal, reintroduced in 2021, ensures the creation of an up-to-date database of active CMOs, fostering transparency, reliability, and enhanced oversight in Nigeria’s capital market. By implementing this system, SEC aims to curb unethical practices and improve investor confidence, while further strengthening market stability.

CMOs are urged to complete their renewals on time to maintain regulatory compliance and avoid potential disruptions to their operations. For inquiries, operators can contact [email protected].
