Senator Aniekan Bassey, representing Akwa Ibom North-East in the National Assembly, has expressed his gratitude to his constituents for allowing him to support the youth of his senatorial district through agribusiness training. The senator recently held a two-day training event aimed at equipping participants with modern farming skills and disbursed over N50 million in grants to kickstart their ventures.
Speaking at the event, which took place at the Senatorial District Liaison Office in Uyo, Senator Bassey highlighted the importance of agriculture as a key driver of sustainable development. The training, themed “Engaging in Modern Farming Practice for Sustainable Economic Development,” focused on empowering the youth with practical knowledge to advance agribusiness, ensure food security, creating employment, and boosting economic growth.
“My agro-empowerment initiative aligns with Governor Umo Eno’s ARISE Agenda, which seeks to promote economic self-reliance and youth empowerment in Akwa Ibom State,” Senator Bassey said.
The senator, assisted by Hon. Monday Eyo, presented cheques to the beneficiaries during the event, which was met with appreciation from the participants. They expressed their gratitude for the hands-on training and financial support, emphasizing how it provided them with the tools to thrive in modern agricultural practices and realize their entrepreneurial dreams.
The event featured renowned resource persons, including Dr. Ekwe Eberechukwu from Alvan Ikoku University of Education, Mr. Pius Nneji, the State Manager of the Bank of Industry, and Mr. Sampson Nsimoh Michael from the Federal College of Agriculture in Ebonyi State.
Some of the beneficiaries of the program include Sunday Monday Bob, Ndifreke Edet Uwah, Kufre Nyong Akra, and Ubon Ekanem, among others, who received grants and the necessary training to start or expand their agribusinesses.
