A grant of $395,000 has been awarded to Ceesolar Energy Limited for a mini-grid power project aimed at providing clean, reliable electricity to the Oweighoroha community in Bayelsa State. The grant is part of the Niger Delta Grant Programme, established by All On, a Shell-funded Nigerian impact investment firm, to empower off-grid developers in the region.

Key Points:

  1. Grant Provider:

   – All On: A Shell-funded impact investment firm committed to sustainable development and economic growth in the Niger Delta.

  1. Recipient:

   – Ceesolar Energy Limited: A renewable energy company specializing in solar system design, construction, and energy system deployment.

  1. Project Scope:

   – The grant will be used to develop a mini-grid power project providing essential electricity to 430 connections in the Oweighoroha community, impacting around 2,000 people.

  1. Selection Process:

   – Ceesolar Energy was selected from a shortlist of 15 developers after a rigorous selection process conducted by All On and the Renewable Energy Association of Nigeria (REAN), due to their proven track record and existing project pipeline in Bayelsa State.

  1. Significance:

   – Despite its natural resource wealth, the Niger Delta faces significant energy access challenges. The project aims to bridge this energy gap, providing both social and productive-use applications to empower residents.

Statements:

– Ms. Caroline Eboumbou, CEO of All On:

   – “This grant to Ceesolar Energy signifies our unwavering commitment, alongside Shell, to fostering a brighter future for the Niger Delta. We are determined to address the lack of access to commercial electrification opportunities.”

– Mr. Osagie Okunbor, Country Chair of the Sustainable Energy for Change Initiative, Shell Companies in Nigeria (SCiN):

   – “The Niger Delta holds immense potential. By providing grants, we can empower developers and contribute to closing the energy gap, one community at a time. Protecting the mini-grid is crucial for the project’s success and future initiatives.”

– Mr. Chibueze Ekeh, CEO of Ceesolar Energy:

   – “We are excited and honoured to be awarded this grant. At Ceesolar Energy, we are passionate about reducing carbon footprints through sustainable energy impacts. This grant is timely and will provide significant impact to the Oweighoroha community.”

Future Prospects:

The success of this project will not only enhance energy access in the Oweighoroha community but also pave the way for more initiatives from All On and other organizations, further driving positive change and development in the Niger Delta region.
