The Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) has certified 86 products from 50 companies in Kwara State under its Mandatory Conformity Assessment Programme (MANCAP) between January and November, reaffirming its commitment to promoting quality assurance in local manufacturing.
Speaking in Ilorin at the 4th Quarter Presentation of MANCAP Certificates to businesses, the Director-General of SON, represented by the Kwara State Director, said the achievement highlights the agency’s progress in driving product quality and industrial growth in the state. He noted that the Kwara office continues to surpass its records each year, reflecting SON’s dedication to maintaining manufacturing standards across Nigeria.
He described MANCAP as a compulsory product certification scheme designed to ensure that all locally made goods meet relevant Nigerian industrial standards before they are sold or exported. He stressed that certification remains SON’s key responsibility, setting it apart from other regulatory agencies.
“For us, certification is not just paperwork, it’s what gives Nigerian products credibility internationally,” he explained, adding that consistent monitoring has particularly improved quality in the water and bread production sectors.
According to SON, about 34 percent of certified companies in Kwara operate in water production, while 26 percent are in bread manufacturing. The agency pledged continued efforts to ensure that only quality products reach consumers, with increased monitoring and support for compliance.
The Head of Food Technology Unit, Hajia Abiola Bayero, said MANCAP enhances consumer confidence and guarantees product safety by confirming compliance through testing.
Some of the certified companies include Mighty Hercules Manufacturing and Supply Limited, United Foam Products Limited, Funsho Bakery Concepts, Adejumo Nigeria Limited, De Yoyo Water, and SEAP Water.
Business owners commended SON for its guidance and oversight, noting that certification has strengthened their market reputation and commitment to quality. They described SON’s monitoring as a positive force that ensures their products consistently meet acceptable standards, helping them compete better both locally and internationally.
