As the world celebrates the International Day of the Girl Child on Friday, the Sterling One Foundation emphasizes the critical need to empower girls to shape a brighter future. In a statement, the foundation, dedicated to addressing poverty in Nigeria and across Africa, underscores the immense potential that girls hold.
The 2024 theme, “Girls’ Vision for the Future,” highlights the urgent need for action and the hope fueled by girls’ voices and their aspirations. Olapeju Ibekwe, CEO of Sterling One Foundation, stated, “Empowering girls to realize their vision for the future is essential for building a more equitable society. Our programs focus on giving them the tools and opportunities they need to lead and succeed.”
Through its STEM for Her initiative, the foundation has positively impacted over 2,000 girls, mainly in rural areas, by fostering interest in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). This initiative equips girls with essential skills to lead and innovate, particularly in addressing global challenges like climate change through mentorship and practical learning.
In addition to STEM, Sterling One Foundation is committed to combating gender-based violence, having reached over 3,000 beneficiaries. Collaborating with partners such as the United Nations Population Fund, Live Abundantly, SCALE Palladium, and the British High Commission, the foundation has launched awareness campaigns, advocated for stronger protective policies, and provided crucial support to survivors.
These initiatives aim to create a safe and supportive environment where every girl can pursue her ambitions. The foundation is dedicated to expanding its reach and impact, ensuring more girls gain access to the education, resources, and protection they deserve.
Sterling One Foundation calls on all stakeholders to work together to create a world where every girl’s voice is heard and their vision for the future is realized.
