The Sterling One Foundation, alongside United Nations Nigeria, MTN Foundation, and the Lagos State Government, announced the agenda for the third Africa Social Impact Summit (ASIS) 2024. The press conference on July 9, 2024, in Lagos set the stage for the event scheduled from July 25-26, 2024.
Key figures at the conference included Olapeju Ibekwe, CEO of Sterling One Foundation; Mohammed M. Malick Fall, UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator in Nigeria; Abubakar Sulieman, CEO of Sterling Bank; Odunayo Sanya, Executive Director of MTN Foundation; Hauwa Adeeyo, Senior Special Assistant to the Lagos State Governor on Commerce, Cooperatives, Trade and Investments; and Dr. Mories Atoki, CEO of ABC Health.
ASIS 2024 Goals and Impact
Olapeju Ibekwe emphasized ASIS’s goals: fostering effective partnerships across sectors, advocating for policies to attract investments in key development areas, and ensuring impactful investments. She highlighted the success of previous summits, noting that over 40% of last year’s participants secured various levels of investment. A notable achievement is the MTN Foundation’s investment of over 3 billion Naira in primary healthcare centers across Nigeria. She invited stakeholders to an investors’ roundtable on July 24, preceding the main summit.
Mohammed M. Malick Fall stressed the urgency of the summit’s goals amid global challenges and the approaching 2030 SDG targets. He remarked, “This gathering is crucial for galvanizing partnerships. The theme, ‘Reimagining Progress: A New Blueprint for Sustainable Growth in Africa,’ aligns with the UN’s mission, and we fully support ASIS 2024.”
Abubakar Sulieman expressed confidence in the summit’s collaborative potential, stating, “Our collective effort can achieve our goals. The institutions here today show we are on the path to success. At Sterling Bank, we believe in solving problems through partnerships, and ASIS exemplifies this approach.”
