On Sunday, the Federal Government of Nigeria announced the receipt of a significant humanitarian aid contribution from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to assist those affected by the recent devastating floods. The aid, comprising 50 tons of relief materials, arrived at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja. UAE Ambassador to Nigeria, Salem Alshamsi, personally oversaw the handover of these critical supplies.
In his remarks during the delivery ceremony, Ambassador Alshamsi emphasized that this relief effort, orchestrated by UAE President Sheikh Mohamed Al Nahyan, demonstrates the UAE’s steadfast commitment to providing aid to countries impacted by natural disasters. The ambassador’s statement underscored the UAE’s broader humanitarian mission and its ongoing support for global disaster relief initiatives.
The relief materials were received by senior officials from Nigeria’s National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Office of the National Security Adviser. NEMA Director-General Mrs. Zubaida Umar expressed heartfelt appreciation for the UAE’s generous gesture. She highlighted that the multi-million-dollar worth of relief materials will significantly enhance the Federal Government’s ongoing efforts to support flood victims and facilitate their recovery from the disaster.
Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Ahmed Dunoma, also conveyed profound gratitude on behalf of President Bola Tinubu. Dr. Dunoma acknowledged the deepening ties between Nigeria and the UAE, noting that this act of solidarity reinforces the strong bilateral relationship between the two nations. The aid is expected to play a crucial role in addressing the immediate needs of those affected by the floods and in supporting the broader recovery and rebuilding efforts.
