Share

The UK Government is advancing environmental innovation in Nigeria through the prestigious Earthshot Prize. At a reception in Abuja, Acting British High Commissioner Gill Lever emphasized the UK’s longstanding partnership with Nigeria on climate and environmental issues and its commitment to supporting sustainable and transformative projects.

Key Initiatives:

– Wildlife Protection: Efforts include protecting the endemic gorilla species in Cross River State.

– Propcom+ Programme: This initiative boosts the climate resilience of farmers and reduces food insecurity.

– UKNIAF: The United Kingdom Nigeria Infrastructure Advisory Facility drives investment in clean off-grid energy projects for underserved communities.

Gill Lever’s Remarks:

Lever highlighted the Earthshot Prize, initiated by Prince William and the Royal Foundation, as a crucial endeavor to address environmental challenges. She stressed the importance of supporting game changers and entrepreneurs dedicated to solving significant issues, particularly in Africa, and inspiring a new generation of innovators.

Reeddi’s Presentation:

Reeddi, a 2021 Earthshot Prize finalist, showcased their clean energy solutions. Founder and CEO Olugbenga Olubanjo shared that the recognition from the Earthshot Prize has allowed Reeddi to expand its reach, providing affordable clean energy to more communities. The support from partners and investors has been instrumental in enhancing their technology, making electricity access easier for Nigerians and Africans.

The reception, held in collaboration with MultiChoice Group, celebrated individuals and organizations committed to environmental stewardship.
