Unity Bank Empowers 1,000 Women with Tech Skills through 'Count Her In' Tech Program
Share

Unity Bank Plc has launched the ‘Count Her In’ tech program, aimed at empowering female beneficiaries with software engineering skills. The initiative, in partnership with SkillPaddy, seeks to bridge talent supply gaps and provide individuals with opportunities to launch careers in the tech industry.

Managed by Mrs. Tomi Somefun, the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Unity Bank Plc, the program aligns with the theme of International Women’s Day 2024, #InspireInclusion. Somefun emphasized the bank’s commitment to driving inclusion, equality, and diversity across industries, stating that empowering young women reflects this commitment.

Unity Bank will sponsor about 40 young girls for full training under this initiative, which is part of the bank’s activities to commemorate International Women’s Day 2024. The beneficiaries will receive training in various aspects of software development, along with mentorship and resources to enhance their success. The program aims to equip participants not only with technical skills but also with life skills such as critical thinking, communication, innovation, and problem-solving.

Globally, women represent only 33 percent of the tech-related workforce. In line with its commitment to empowering women in the tech industry, Unity Bank recently partnered with AltSchool Africa, a software training provider, to sponsor female students to acquire specialist software development skills. This initiative underscores Unity Bank’s dedication to fostering innovation and diversity in the digital economy.
