The University of Uyo has received a grant of two hundred and fifty million naira (N250m) from the Abdul Samad Rabiu Africa Initiative (ASR Africa) for the construction of four classroom blocks at its main campus. This grant is part of ASR Africa’s commitment to providing sustainable solutions to developmental issues in health, education, and social development across Africa.
The grant, facilitated through the ASR Africa Tertiary Education Grants Scheme (TEGS), underscores ASR Africa’s dedication to supporting quality education and creating conducive learning environments within Nigeria’s tertiary education system.
Dr. Ubon Udoh, the Managing Director/CEO of ASR Africa, highlighted the Chairman of BUA Group, Abdul Samad Rabiu’s passion for quality education and conducive learning environments. He emphasized that the classroom blocks, which will accommodate four simultaneous lectures upon completion, will be constructed within six months.
The ASR Africa initiative, established in 2021 by Abdul Samad Rabiu, has already benefited over 27 public and private Nigerian universities and institutions of higher learning. Institutions such as the University of Maiduguri, Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, and the University of Ilorin have benefited from the Tertiary Education Grants Scheme.
The selection of the University of Uyo as a beneficiary reflects its institutional and management performance, as well as its academic output. Udoh commended the university’s management for their support and reiterated ASR Africa’s commitment to supporting quality education and addressing developmental issues in Africa.
In response, Prof. Nyaudoh Ndaeyo, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Uyo, expressed gratitude to ASR Africa for considering the university as a worthy beneficiary. He emphasized the importance of the construction of the classroom blocks, which will provide much-needed relief to the university’s permanent site.
Prof. Ndaeyo also appealed to the federal government to release a take-grant to Uniuyo to help provide the needed facilities on the campus. He expressed appreciation to Abdul Samad Rabiu for his interventions in tertiary institutions across the country.
