Wema Bank has announced its continued commitment to women’s empowerment through a ₦2 million business grant to be awarded at this year’s SheCan Conference, taking place in Lagos on Friday. The conference, now in its sixth edition, is themed “SheCan Do More” and is set to gather women from across the country for a day of learning, inspiration, and strategic support.

As a strategic partner of the event, Wema Bank is offering the grant through its women-focused initiative, SARA by Wema, to support female entrepreneurs within the SARA Community. According to the bank, the grant is not just financial assistance but part of a broader vision to equip women with the resources they need to thrive in business.

The Head of Retail and SME Banking at Wema Bank explained that empowering women goes beyond giving out funds. The bank is focused on delivering financial support alongside access to tools, training, and networks that enable sustainable growth. She noted that the bank has witnessed the lasting impact of such empowerment on women, their families, and the communities they serve.

“Through SARA by Wema, we are committed to creating an ecosystem where Nigerian women are not only dreamers but doers, building businesses that lead economies and shape the future,” she said. “This year’s partnership with SheCan is not just sponsorship; it is a direct investment in building stronger, more resilient women-led businesses.”

To qualify for the ₦2 million business grant, applicants must be women-led businesses that operate active Wema Bank accounts and are registered members of the SARA Community. Applicants are required to submit a written pitch; no more than two pages, detailing their business and founder story, the problem their enterprise addresses, their target market, unique competitive advantage, intended use of the grant, and expected community impact.

SARA by Wema is a comprehensive banking and lifestyle platform tailored to women. It offers access to finance, business advisory services, personal growth resources, and wellness support, aiming to serve women at every stage of life and business development.

Wema Bank has been a consistent supporter of the SheCan Conference since its inception. Beyond the annual event, the bank has also backed SheCan’s broader mission through mentorship schemes, vocational training, and community outreach initiatives, impacting thousands of women across Nigeria.

Since its launch, SheCan has empowered over 26,000 women, cementing its reputation as one of Nigeria’s most influential platforms for female entrepreneurship and personal development. The 2025 edition will feature three focused panel discussions exploring business and career growth, personal self-discovery, and work-life integration further reinforcing the strength and versatility of the modern Nigerian woman.

Through initiatives like this, Wema Bank and SheCan are contributing to a growing movement of women taking bold steps to drive inclusive economic growth, one business at a time.
