WhatsApp Rolls Out New Features: Missed Call Messages, Fun Status Stickers, And AI Upgrades
Share

WhatsApp will let users leave voice or video messages when calls go unanswered, eliminating traditional voicemail through a new missed call messaging feature launching in time for the holidays. The update is part of a broader feature release that includes interactive Status stickers, enhanced Meta AI image generation, and improved group video calls.

The missed call feature works automatically based on call type—voice calls trigger voice message prompts, while video calls offer video message options. Users can record their message in one tap, with the recipient accessing it directly within WhatsApp rather than through a separate voicemail system.

Status now supports music lyrics, question stickers that invite responses, and other interactive elements designed to boost engagement. Meta AI’s image generation has been upgraded with capabilities from Midjourney and Flux, producing higher-quality visual content for holiday greetings. A new animation feature transforms static photos into short videos that can be shared in chats or added to Status updates.

The update on voice chats now include reactions, letting users respond with quick emojis without interrupting the conversation. Group video calls automatically highlight the active speaker, making it easier to follow multi-person discussions. Desktop users on Mac, Windows, and Web can now search for documents, links, and media across all chats in a unified media tab, while link previews have been redesigned to be less intrusive. Channel admins can now post questions to engage their audiences in real-time.
