Seventy women with disabilities in Lagos have received business empowerment support worth ₦4.7 million through a collaborative initiative by Sightsavers, Unilever Nigeria Plc, and the Growing Businesses Foundation (GBF).
The empowerment program, launched under Sightsavers’ Strengthening Access to Business Education and Inclusion (SABI) Women project, seeks to boost entrepreneurship, promote financial inclusion, and enhance business skills among women with disabilities.
Participants underwent training in essential areas such as customer relations, digital marketing, and sales record-keeping. Each beneficiary received a “business basket” valued at ₦60,000 to help start or expand their businesses.
To ensure the initiative’s sustainability, GBF will oversee progress and provide inventory management support through dedicated Retail Sales Representatives (RSPs).
Christiana Olowolagba, one of the beneficiaries, expressed gratitude for the program, highlighting how it facilitated access to products at company prices and simplified logistics by delivering directly to their doorsteps.
This initiative underscores the importance of inclusive support in empowering marginalized groups across Africa, fostering economic growth and independence among women with disabilities.
