The Youth Economic Intervention and De-Radicalization Programme (YEIDEP) has resurfaced in public discussions as Wema Bank begins sending account numbers to applicants. This development marks the first concrete sign of progress in weeks, sparking fresh optimism among young Nigerians awaiting support.
Applicants have reported receiving SMS alerts directly from Wema Bank confirming account activation. The text message, now widely circulated across Facebook and WhatsApp groups, reads: “Congrats! Your YEIDEP application is complete, and your Wema account (number) is active. Stay tuned for more info.” For many, it is the first official-looking communication since they applied months ago.
YEIDEP had earlier assured beneficiaries that disbursements for Batch A would begin between July 1 and July 31, 2025, before a later circular shifted the date to October 20–30, 2025. However, neither the programme’s coordinators nor the federal government has issued a formal statement confirming any timeline. The silence has fueled uncertainty, making Wema Bank’s move significant in the eyes of anxious applicants.
So far, only Wema Bank has started opening accounts for beneficiaries. Other banks expected to participate in the disbursement are yet to show signs of activity. A separate, unofficial circular circulating online suggested that account collection might take place from September 1 to 10, followed by engagement with applicants between September 11 and October 11, 2025. But with no official confirmation, these dates remain speculative.
YEIDEP is designed to provide Nigerian youths with financial assistance, training, and employment opportunities. Its broader goal is to reduce poverty, curb radicalisation, and create sustainable livelihoods. For many young people, receiving an account number represents the first tangible step toward accessing financial aid.
The programme has drawn national attention, with beneficiaries actively sharing updates on social media. Each new development quickly gains traction across communities, reflecting the level of anticipation surrounding the initiative.
At the same time, authorities and civil society groups are urging caution. With excitement building, fraudsters may try to exploit applicants by demanding payments or impersonating programme representatives. It has been emphasised that YEIDEP does not require any fees for account activation or fund disbursement. Any such request should be considered fraudulent.
