Yobe State Empowers 500 Entrepreneurs with N50 Million Grant and Start-Up Kits
Share

The Yobe State Government has disbursed N50 million in cash grants and start-up kits to 500 entrepreneurs trained in producing household products such as soap, detergents, charcoal, shoes, and disinfectants.

The training, organized by the Yobe State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), focused on equipping participants with skills to use locally sourced materials in their businesses.

Governor Mai Mala Buni, while distributing the grants at the Government House in Damaturu, stated that each beneficiary received N100,000 alongside a start-up kit to launch their ventures. He emphasized that the initiative aims to promote self-reliance, empower local entrepreneurs, and generate sustainable incomes.

“The program particularly empowers women and youth, who constitute 70% and 30% of the beneficiaries, respectively,” Governor Buni said. He reiterated his administration’s commitment to grassroots empowerment and post-conflict recovery to transform the lives of vulnerable populations and build a brighter future for Yobe communities.

SEMA Executive Secretary, Dr. Goje Muhammad, highlighted the broader impact of the initiative, noting that over 2,500 SMEs have been trained and empowered across Potiskum, Fika, Fune, Nangere, Gujba, and Damaturu Local Government Areas.

This empowerment drive is part of Yobe State’s ongoing efforts to stimulate economic growth, reduce unemployment, and foster local entrepreneurship through innovative training and financial support programs.
