The Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria, (SMEDAN) has revealed that it will empower fifty people living with disabilities (PLWDs), in Katsina State with N2.5million.
The Deputy Director, Partnership and Coordination Department, of SMEDAN, Mr Fisher Adeyinka said this during a two-day workshop organised for the PLWDs on Wednesday in Katsina.
Each of the awardees, chosen from the state’s 34 local governments, will receive N 50,000, he said.
He revealed the funds would be given to the PLWDs at the conclusion of the training course held in conjunction with the Katsina State Government.
He claimed that the workshop’s goal with theme “Institutionalised Support for People Living With Disabilities” was organised to increase the beneficiaries’ knowledge of the numerous business ventures they intended to start.
Adeyinka said that the training was to enlighten them to know how they can establish their preferred businesses.
He said: “We felt there is always ability in disability, that was the reason why we organised the special training for the physically- challenged persons.
“We have already organised the maiden edition of this programme in Lagos, while Katsina State is the second place that we are doing this.”
Fisher affirmed that the training will help the participants to up-scale their skills.
