Benue State government is empowering 27,600 women through grants and soft loans from the Bank of Agriculture (BoA) to enhance self-reliance.
Joy Luga, the Commissioner for Cooperatives and Rural Development, revealed Governor Hyacinth Alia’s commitment to supporting women to improve their living standards and contribute to their families’ well-being.
The initiative aligns with the governor’s Strategic Development Plan and the theme of the 2024 International Women’s Day celebration, emphasizing the inclusion of rural women in government programs.
Women are undergoing training in various skills such as fashion/hair designing, beads making, cosmetics, soap and detergent making, and ICT. After training, they will receive soft loans ranging from N100,000 to N200,000 per person.
While focusing on women’s empowerment, the ministry ensures inclusivity by extending similar opportunities to men interested in improving their socio-economic status. Training and empowerment initiatives for men will follow the women’s program.
The goal is to empower individuals to utilize loans effectively, contributing positively to their families and communities. The ministry remains committed to serving the people of Benue State, including support for the girl child.
