Dangote Cement Plc has trained and graduated 46 solar energy installers and entrepreneurs, further solidifying its role in Nigeria’s socio-economic development. The graduation ceremony, held at the Dangote Academy, was attended by key figures, including the Plant Director of Dangote Cement Plc, Obajana, Azad Nawabuddin, who emphasized the importance of youth empowerment in driving sustainable development and job creation.
Azad, represented by John Gwong, Head of Production, noted that the training aligns with Dangote’s commitment to supporting government efforts in electrifying communities across the country. He described the program as a rare opportunity, a “meal ticket,” and a future-focused initiative.
The program is part of Dangote Cement’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) efforts, with the trainees set to contribute to Nigeria’s renewable energy sector. Wakeel Olayiwola, Head of Social Performance at Dangote Cement, represented by Olusegun Olojede, highlighted the graduates’ potential to assist the government in improving the nation’s power supply.
The initiative saw 46 beneficiaries, 27 men and 19 women, drawn from Obajana, Oyo, Iwaa, and Apata in Kogi State. The training, in collaboration with the Industrial Training Fund (ITF), provided them with skills to harness solar energy for sustainable power generation.
Abdulrahman Wudilawa, Training Manager at ITF Kogi State, urged the graduates to capitalize on the lucrative opportunities within the solar energy sector, given Nigeria’s abundant sunlight. He also emphasized the environmental benefits of solar energy, noting its role in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and combating climate change.
