Instagram has unveiled a new feature that allows users to see which Reels their friends have liked or commented on, aiming to boost engagement on the platform.
The update, now rolling out globally, introduces small profile bubbles on the top right of the Reels playback screen. By tapping these bubbles, users can view posts their friends interacted with and easily join the conversation through a reply bar.
Instagram describes this as part of its efforts to enhance “creativity and connection,” encouraging users to engage socially within the app. However, reactions have been mixed.
Critics worry the feature could create awkward moments if friends’ interactions with sensitive or controversial content are visible. Privacy concerns have also surfaced, particularly regarding relationships where likes could be misinterpreted.
To address this, Instagram says its algorithms will carefully curate the interactions displayed, avoiding potentially embarrassing or damaging content.
