The top ten graduates of the Creative Accelerators Program (CAP) received N500,000 grants each to start their businesses at a vibrant graduation ceremony celebrating the inaugural cohort of 100 aspiring creatives. The event showcased the participants’ newly acquired skills through a drama presentation, fashion parade, and movie trailer, all created by the graduates.
Fegho Umunubo, Special Assistant to the President on Digital and Creative Economy, highlighted the program’s importance in strengthening the digital and creative economy by developing the next generation of creative professionals. Umunubo announced the training will be held quarterly, graduating four cohorts annually, and assured a mechanism to ensure grant recipients use the funds effectively.
The graduation culminated in a pitch event where participants competed for ₦500,000 in funding. The top ten participants received the grants, and plans are in place to provide further funding opportunities for their businesses.
“We will continue supporting the creative economy through ongoing training and empowerment,” said Great Ogban, Director General of MEDA. “Cross River State, under the leadership of His Excellency, Senator Prince Bassey Edet Otu, is strongly committed to MSME development, particularly in the creative sector.”
The Creative Accelerators Program (CAP), launched in October 2024, has garnered significant support from the creative industry and is dedicated to boosting the creative economy.
