The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) has unveiled its newly established Aviation Chapter, a dedicated platform aimed at advancing financial best practices, strategic integration, and ethical leadership within Nigeria’s aviation industry.
Designed as a professional forum for ICAN members with interests and expertise in aviation finance, the chapter seeks to address the unique economic and operational challenges facing stakeholders in the sector, including airlines, airports, and regulatory bodies. The move represents a significant step in aligning the aviation industry with global standards of financial governance and strategic accountability.
In a statement issued by ICAN representative John Italume, the Aviation Chapter is positioned to champion professional excellence through industry-specific workshops, seminars, and training programs. These initiatives will focus on addressing the distinct financial needs of the aviation sector and enhancing the capabilities of accounting professionals within it.
The chapter also aims to foster knowledge exchange by creating avenues for members to share best practices, insights, and research findings. In addition, it will actively engage with policymakers and regulators to influence financial and economic policies impacting aviation operations in Nigeria.
To guide this mission, an interim executive team has been appointed, comprising seasoned chartered accountants and aviation finance experts. Ayodele Olatiregun will be formally invested as the Pioneer Chairman of the chapter. He will be joined by other professionals with deep experience in airport management and strategic aviation leadership.
The official launch of the ICAN Aviation Chapter is scheduled for Tuesday, April 22, 2025, at the Victoria Garden Conference and Event Centre in Agidingbi, Ikeja, Lagos. The event is expected to draw prominent stakeholders from the aviation industry, financial sector, regulatory agencies, and government institutions.
Through this initiative, ICAN aims to play a transformative role in building a resilient, financially disciplined, and globally competitive aviation sector in Nigeria.
