The Federal Government has launched the Green Money Project, a presidential initiative designed to empower young Nigerians through modern agricultural practices and digital innovation. Unveiled at the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), the initiative aims to reposition agriculture as a key driver of economic growth, youth employment, and national food security.
Speaking at the launch, the Special Assistant to President Bola Tinubu on Agriculture described the initiative as a strategic intervention aligned with the administration’s declaration of a state of emergency on food security. According to him, the Green Money Project complements the ongoing efforts of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security by actively engaging young people in transforming Nigeria’s agricultural landscape.
The programme is structured to attract, train, and support youth by equipping them with practical knowledge in mechanized farming, climate-smart agriculture, and digital technologies. It will be implemented through selected universities, youth development centres, and technical colleges across the country, creating institutional hubs where young Nigerians can acquire skills, access mentorship, and connect with markets.
The initiative is also designed to confront Nigeria’s pressing challenges—rising unemployment, poverty, and underutilization of vast agricultural resources. With a focus on data development, capacity building, resource mobilisation, mentorship, and market access, the Green Money Project aims to reposition agriculture as a profitable and innovative sector.
At the launch event, the project’s coordinator emphasized the initiative’s potential to build a generation of agripreneurs who can drive inclusive economic growth. The Vice Chancellor of FUNAAB also expressed gratitude to the Presidency for selecting the university as one of the project’s partners. He described the initiative as timely and impactful, noting that it would significantly strengthen the institution’s food production and value chain development efforts.
Beyond its immediate goals, the Green Money Project reflects President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda—a vision of youth-led national transformation. By integrating modern tools with traditional farming practices and offering access to training and markets, the project seeks to make agriculture not just a livelihood, but a vehicle for national development.
If implemented effectively, the Green Money Project could spark a shift in how young Nigerians perceive and participate in agriculture. It represents a comprehensive effort to tackle food insecurity while building a sustainable, youth-driven economy rooted in innovation and productivity.
