The NNPC Limited and FIRST Exploration & Petroleum Development Company Joint Venture, in partnership with the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board, has completed a major teacher training workshop aimed at boosting digital education across six Niger Delta states.
Held at the NCDMB Complex in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, the workshop trained 180 teachers from Bayelsa, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, Delta, Abia, and Imo States on the use of K-YAN all-in-one digital teaching devices. These multimedia tools, pre-loaded with content from primary to senior secondary levels, are designed to enhance classroom engagement and support modern teaching methods.
Each school involved in the programme received two K-YAN devices along with solar power solutions, bringing the total number of devices distributed in this phase to 200. This builds on the 2023 pilot phase, which saw 100 devices introduced in selected secondary schools.
According to FIRST E&P, the initiative is part of a long-term plan to strengthen educational capacity in host communities through technology-driven learning. The company’s Executive Director of Corporate Services, represented by the Nigerian Content Officer, Nkem Aghadiuno, said the goal is to prepare students for the challenges of a fast-changing world.
“This programme is about equipping today’s students – our future leaders – with the tools they need to compete in a rapidly evolving world. By integrating K-YAN technology into classrooms, we’re helping to bring education to life and improve learning outcomes,” he said.
The NCDMB also endorsed the initiative as a key driver of human capital development. Timbiri Augustine, General Manager of Capacity Building at the Board, noted that the training supports STEM education and aligns with the board’s broader mission of preparing youth for participation in the oil and gas industry.
Teachers who participated in the training shared positive feedback, with many describing the experience as transformative. One of them, Blessing Unuafe from SBSS Community Secondary School in Rivers State, said the training opened new possibilities for engaging students through technology.
Through this initiative, the NNPC/FIRST E&P Joint Venture reinforces its commitment to sustainable development, human capital growth, and improved educational outcomes in its host communities.
