Ondo Government Disburses N1.2 Billion to Low-Income Families
Share

In a strategic move to cushion economic hardship and empower low-income families, the Ondo State Government has launched a new phase of the Conditional Cash Transfer scheme, disbursing N1.2 billion to 16,255 beneficiaries across the state.

The programme, officially flagged off by Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa on October 11, 2024, at the Akure South Local Government Secretariat, aligns with the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope agenda. It is being implemented through the National Social Investment Programme Agency in collaboration with the state government.

Each beneficiary will receive N75,000 in total, paid in three monthly installments of N25,000 through Renewed Hope Debit Cards. According to the governor, this initiative will inject over N1.2 billion directly into the grassroots economy, supporting vulnerable households across all 18 local government areas.

“Today, we take yet another bold step in our ongoing commitment to improving the welfare of our people,” Aiyedatiwa said. “This programme will not only provide financial relief but also restore dignity and strengthen self-reliance among the most vulnerable.”

This latest round marks a significant scale-up from the previous disbursement in November 2024, when 8,637 people received a total of N647 million. The governor credited the Federal Government for sustaining the initiative, particularly acknowledging the role of President Bola Tinubu and the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development.

He urged recipients to use the funds judiciously, emphasizing the importance of investing in family needs, micro-businesses, and long-term livelihood opportunities.

Present at the launch was the Deji of Akure, Oba Aladetoyinbo Aladelusi, who commended the governor’s proactive approach in aligning state efforts with national policies. He expressed confidence in Aiyedatiwa’s leadership, praising his commitment to social inclusion and people-centred governance.

With card activation and first installment payments already underway, officials confirmed that all beneficiaries will receive their initial payment by the end of October.

As economic pressure continues nationwide, this direct intervention serves as a vital lifeline, reinforcing Ondo State’s commitment to inclusive development and economic resilience for its most vulnerable citizens.
