The National Directorate of Employment (NDE) has announced that the second phase of its Renewed Hope Empowerment Initiative will begin in July. The declaration was made on June 24 by the agency’s Director General during a valedictory ceremony held in Abuja to honour retiring NDE officials.
According to the NDE Director General, the new phase will build on lessons from the previous one, with improved structures and strategies aimed at delivering greater impact. He said the agency had paid close attention to feedback and made significant adjustments to strengthen the programme.
To expand the initiative’s reach, the NDE has partnered with the Development Bank of Nigeria and several international organisations. These partnerships are expected to improve access to finance for beneficiaries and generate more sustainable job opportunities for Nigerians.
The DG also used the occasion to celebrate outgoing NDE staff, some of whom have served the country for over three decades. He commended their dedication and hinted that some may continue contributing to current programmes. He urged current staff to stay committed to the agency’s goals and always prioritise the NDE’s objectives over personal interests.
Several speakers at the event praised the DG’s leadership, describing him as effective and results-oriented. Representatives of the retirees, including former staff members, expressed gratitude for the recognition. Despite financial constraints, the ceremony featured heartfelt speeches, awards, and moments of celebration, including cake-cutting and photo sessions.
