The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) to strengthen Nigeria’s food safety and quality systems.
The agreement, formalised at NAFDAC’s Corporate Headquarters in Abuja, is designed to improve regulatory frameworks, enhance product quality, and ensure safer food production nationwide.
For small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the food sector, the partnership presents a strategic opportunity to align operations with global best practices, access specialised training on safety compliance, and boost product competitiveness in both local and international markets.
By raising industry standards, the collaboration is expected to increase consumer trust, reduce the risks of foodborne illnesses, and enable more Nigerian food producers to meet export requirements.
NAFDAC and WFP reaffirmed their commitment to work closely with local producers, processors, and distributors to achieve sustainable improvements across Nigeria’s food value chain.
