The Lagos State government, through the Lagos State Science Research and Innovation Council (LASRIC), has awarded nearly ₦75 million in grants to support research, innovative projects, and science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) initiatives.
The initiative is designed to foster a knowledge-driven economy, strengthen technological advancement, and empower start-ups, entrepreneurs, and researchers across the state.
Grants were awarded in three categories , Research and Development (R&D), Innovation, and STEM Education , reflecting Lagos’ vision of nurturing talents that will shape the future of its economy.
Speaking at the awards ceremony, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, represented by Secretary to the State Government, Bimbola Salu-Hundeyin, said the programme aligns with the government’s broader strategy to build a modern, inclusive and resilient economy driven by creativity and knowledge.
He noted that LASRIC was established with the goal of transforming Lagos into a knowledge-based economy, and has since become a source of hope and support for young innovators and entrepreneurs.
Highlighting Lagos’ growing footprint in the innovation space, Sanwo-Olu disclosed that LASRIC has funded several breakthrough ideas spanning health, education, fintech, mobility, climate change, circular economy, culture and even quantum computing.
Commissioner for Innovation, Science and Technology, Tunbosun Alake, emphasized that entrepreneurship, innovation, and R&D are central to Lagos’ development agenda. He commended the awardees for their creativity and urged them to sustain their contributions to societal growth.
Among the recipients were Prof. Akintayo Ogundajo, Dr. Metilelu Olusola, Blessing Aniefiok, Co-founder/COO of Dynalimb Technologies, and Ajayi Oluwafemi, Co-founder/Director of Partnerships and Growth at Black Accelerate.
Chairman of LASRIC and Vice Chancellor of Lagos University of Science and Technology, Prof. Olumiyiwa Odusanya, praised the ingenuity of the awardees and pledged the council’s continued support in building Lagos into a leading technology and innovation hub in Africa.
Expressing their appreciation, the awardees promised to deploy the grants effectively, delivering solutions that will impact Lagos residents and contribute to national development.
This intervention reinforces Lagos State’s unwavering commitment to fostering a vibrant innovation ecosystem that empowers businesses, drives job creation, and secures its place as Nigeria’s foremost tech and research hub.
