Farmers, traders, and small business owners in Oyo State are set to benefit from ongoing rural road and market upgrades under the Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project (RAAMP). The initiative is expected to ease the movement of agricultural produce, expand market access, and create new opportunities for micro and small enterprises in the state.
The projects, currently underway in Iseyin and other local government areas, target better connectivity for farming communities and improved facilities for market operations. By cutting transportation costs and reducing post-harvest losses, officials say the initiative could strengthen local agribusinesses and improve food supply chains.
During a recent inspection, Acting Governor Bayo Lawal emphasized that timely and quality delivery of the projects was essential to unlocking these benefits. He toured the Olokoyo Ikere Dam Road (21.95 km), the Oja Agbe Market, and the Alako Idiya Batake Olowa Ijaye Farm Settlement Road (31.7 km), all under the RAAMP scheme.
Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, Olasunkanmi Olaleye, noted that market women, transport operators, and other small business owners are also key beneficiaries, since upgraded infrastructure will expand trading activities and improve logistics for rural enterprises.
The RAAMP initiative, backed by state and development partners, is positioned as a catalyst for boosting agricultural productivity while also supporting MSMEs that rely on rural markets and supply chains for their growth.
