The Federal Government, through the Ministry of Women Affairs, has partnered with the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) to distribute relief materials and basic support to women, families, and vulnerable groups across Nigeria’s 774 local government areas.
The initiative, according to the Ministry, is part of ongoing efforts to reduce hardship and improve welfare under the government’s Renewed Hope Agenda. Items being distributed include food staples such as rice and fabrics for clothing, targeted at households most affected by economic challenges.
The first phase of the programme was flagged off in Benue State, where over 400 bags of rice, 20 bales of Ankara fabrics, and 10 bales of multipurpose clothing were shared with women and their families. The exercise continued in Ogun State on Tuesday, with the distribution of more than 100 bags of rice and five bales of fabrics in Abeokuta.
Officials noted that the collaboration is designed not only to provide immediate relief but also to strengthen community resilience. The Comptroller General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, and his team were commended for facilitating the release and distribution of the items.
The Ministry of Women Affairs stated that the programme will extend to other states in the coming weeks, with the goal of ensuring that women and vulnerable households nationwide benefit from the intervention.
Observers say the partnership highlights how government agencies can combine resources to address rising social and economic pressures, particularly for women-led households that remain central to food security and family stability.
