A group, the Abdurrahman Bashir Haske Women and Youth Forum (ABHWYF), has commenced the distribution of free fertilizers and farm inputs to farmers, primarily youths and women, across the 21 local government areas of Adamawa State.
The first phase of the initiative took place at Lamido Zubairu Hall in Yola South, covering Adamawa Central zone, which includes Yola South, Yola North, Girei, and Fufore councils. The programme will later extend to the remaining councils in the state.
The distribution, launched by philanthropist Abdulrahman Haske, is coordinated by the APC Youth Leader in the state, Abubakar Tsoho. Speaking at the ceremony, Tsoho said the initiative aims to reach all farmers in Adamawa and urged beneficiaries to apply the inputs properly to increase yield and improve livelihoods.
Gloria Istifanus, Acting State Women Leader, highlighted the inclusive approach that ensured broad participation in the programme. Abdul Ahmed, the forum’s Media Coordinator, added that the partnership with stakeholders was crucial to making the distribution efficient and equitable.
“This initiative comes at a crucial time as Nigeria faces rising food prices and insecurity, which have disrupted farming activities in many communities,” Tsoho said. “Supporting farmers at the grassroots is essential for strengthening food supply chains and reducing poverty in Adamawa State and beyond.”
Beneficiaries, mainly youths and women, welcomed the support, noting that the inputs arrived as the rainy season began in earnest. Many described the intervention as a timely boost for their farming activities and a step toward increasing agricultural productivity in the state.
