URNI, NIDCOM Unveil Initiative to Empower 17Million Nigerians in Diaspora
Share

The Unveiling and Rebranding Nigeria Initiative (URNI) has unveiled a new partnership with the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM) to mobilise 17 million Nigerians abroad for a national rebranding drive.

According to URNI, the initiative is designed to empower diaspora Nigerians to project a positive image of the country while contributing to national development through cultural diplomacy, youth engagement, diaspora mobilisation, and the use of technology-driven platforms to inspire patriotism.

Speaking during a courtesy visit to NIDCOM headquarters in Abuja, URNI Chairman, Board of Trustees, Brigadier General Buba Shajiaba (Rtd), said the organisation is expanding globally through strategic partnerships with diaspora-based groups, including the Friends of Nigeria in Europe (FON), co-chaired by John Okoro in France.

He noted that such collaborations have strengthened cultural exchange and created avenues for mobilising diaspora resources for Nigeria’s development.

Shajiaba commended NIDCOM Chairman, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, for her leadership in championing the welfare, protection, and empowerment of Nigerians abroad. He also applauded NIDCOM’s efforts in diaspora investment, advocacy, and policy development, describing them as in alignment with URNI’s vision of building a Nigeria that commands global respect.

During the visit, URNI presented its maiden Faces of Patriotism book celebrating exemplary Nigerians and unveiled its strategic roadmap for the national rebranding initiative.

Receiving the team, NIDCOM Secretary, Dr. Sule Bassi, highlighted the potential of Nigeria’s diaspora community, noting their vital role in investment, innovation, and diplomacy. He urged URNI to align its programmes with NIDCOM’s flagship initiatives, describing the partnership as a transformative step towards strengthening international confidence in Nigeria while reinforcing unity and patriotism at home.

Both organisations reaffirmed their commitment to showcasing Nigeria’s strengths and talents globally, with the diaspora empowerment initiative positioned as a key driver of national rebranding.
