The Abia State Government has offered automatic employment to nine ex-members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) of Abia origin who recently received the Presidential NYSC Honour Award for their exceptional performance during their service year.
Governor Alex Otti made the announcement while receiving the honourees at Government House, Umuahia, in the company of the NYSC State Coordinator, Gladys Adama. He directed the State Head of Service to immediately issue appointment letters to the beneficiaries, describing the gesture as both a reward for excellence and an incentive for other young Nigerians to pursue distinction in national service.
“On behalf of the state government, I hereby lift the embargo on employment to accommodate the nine of you. You will be given automatic employment without any further interviews because your achievements already qualify you,” Otti said.
He commended the NYSC State Coordinator for presenting the honourees to him and urged the beneficiaries to remain diligent in their new roles as contributors to the state’s development.
Adama explained that the awardees were among those decorated by President Bola Tinubu on July 29, adding that none of them served in Abia State. She stressed that the recognition was a clear demonstration of the ex-corps members’ commitment to excellence in their places of assignment across the country.
One of the beneficiaries, Nwogu Chinomso from Obingwa Local Government Area, who served in Zamfara State, expressed gratitude on behalf of his colleagues. He promised that they would repay the state’s trust with loyalty and dedication.
The nine awardees granted automatic employment are Nwogu Chinomso, Anyanwụ Promise, Ezieme Francis Uba, Emmanuel Ogbenyealu Ezinne, Abia Chinwendu Grace, Nwafike Esther Chiemela, Ugwa Obinna Mark, Eke Lawrence Miracle and James Raphael Chukwuebuka. Stakeholders present at the event noted that the move aligns with the government’s drive to promote youth empowerment, create employment opportunities, and tap into the skills of young talents for inclusive development.
