Nigeria LNG Limited (NLNG), in collaboration with the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB), has concluded the Train 7 Project Human Capital Development (HCD) Advanced Training Programme, marking a significant milestone in efforts to deepen Nigerian content in the oil and gas sector. The programme officially ends on September 30, 2025, with the departure of trainees from the company’s plant facility in Finima, Bonny Island.
The HCD initiative, implemented under NCDMB’s supervision, is part of the Federal Government’s drive to build capacity in the oil and gas industry and meets the Nigerian Oil and Gas Industry Content Development (NOGICD) Act’s human capital development requirements.
A total of 122 participants, drawn from both graduate and vocational categories, completed the intensive three-month on-the-job training within NLNG’s facilities. Approved by NCDMB after completing prior basic training programmes, the trainees received practical experience in plant and facility management, technical operations, and other specialized skills, equipping them to compete for future opportunities in the industry.
Speaking at the close-out ceremony, NLNG Train 7 Project Director described the programme as a testament to the resilience, discipline, and growth of the participants. He commended their dedication and urged them to apply their newly acquired skills to contribute to Nigeria’s oil and gas sector. He noted that the zero-incident safety record achieved during the programme reflects both the trainees’ commitment and NLNG’s strict “Safety First and Always” culture.
He also acknowledged NCDMB’s strategic role in driving local content targets and capacity development, as well as the training partners Candix Engineering Nigeria Limited, AOS Orwell, Arco Marine and Engineering Limited, Dover Engineering, and Amaiden Energy Nigeria Limited for delivering a world-class training experience.
The programme was described as a model of how strategic collaboration can deliver measurable impact by investing in people, strengthening capacity, and laying the foundation for long-term economic growth.
The Train 7 Project, one of Africa’s largest gas infrastructure developments, has not only generated employment but also created a platform to groom young Nigerians with advanced technical and managerial competencies. The training offered hands-on experience on a live LNG project, complementing academic knowledge with exposure to advanced technical disciplines, project management, health and safety standards, and emerging industry technologies.
As part of the programme’s outcomes, 27 trainees received special recognition awards for outstanding performance, with six of them earning automatic employment with AOS Orwell, one of the training partners. Trainees were encouraged to use the rare skills they have gained to support the growth of Nigeria’s oil and gas sector and contribute to national industrial development.
The event also featured the presentation of awards to deserving participants and reaffirmed NLNG’s and NCDMB’s commitment to expanding Nigerian content and investing in the nation’s human capital. For Nigeria’s energy industry and MSME ecosystem, such capacity-building initiatives strengthen the talent pipeline, boost local participation, and support the country’s ambition of building a globally competitive oil and gas workforce.
