The Citizenship and Leadership Training Centre (CLTC) has opened talks with the Women’s Rights Advancement and Protection Alternative (WRAPA) to launch a strategic collaboration focused on strengthening leadership capacity, civic responsibility, and youth engagement in nation-building.
During a courtesy visit by CLTC leadership, discussions centred on combining efforts to develop new initiatives that will empower young Nigerians with the skills, values, and mindset needed to become effective leaders and active citizens. A key highlight of the partnership is the deliberate focus on increasing opportunities for young women in leadership, recognising their critical role in driving social change and sustainable national growth.
According to CLTC officials, the collaboration aligns with the agency’s core mandate of instilling leadership values, discipline, and civic consciousness among young people. Through joint training programmes, mentorship schemes, and advocacy campaigns, the initiative aims to nurture a new generation of leaders equipped to address national challenges and contribute meaningfully to development across sectors.
WRAPA welcomed the partnership, commending CLTC for its inclusive approach to leadership development. The organisation stressed that empowering young women to take on leadership roles is essential for building equitable societies and achieving Nigeria’s long-term development goals. It reaffirmed its readiness to support upcoming joint projects designed to strengthen leadership skills, promote civic participation, and advance gender equity.
Both organisations agreed to commence collaborative programmes that will focus on values reorientation, leadership training, civic engagement, and mentorship. These initiatives will target young Nigerians across diverse communities, equipping them, particularly women; with the tools, knowledge, and confidence to take on leadership responsibilities in public service, business, civil society, and other spheres.
The partnership comes at a time when Nigeria faces growing calls to invest in its youth population, which represents a significant share of the country’s human capital. By fostering leadership qualities and civic consciousness early, CLTC and WRAPA aim to help young people transition from passive observers to active drivers of change in their communities and beyond.
