WAAW Foundation Scholarship 2025 ($500 Award for African Women in STEM)

Applications are now open for the 2025 WAAW (Working to Advance STEM Education for African Women) Foundation Scholarship. The scholarship supports young African women pursuing undergraduate degrees in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM), empowering them to excel academically while inspiring other young women to explore STEM careers.

About the Program
The WAAW Foundation is dedicated to bridging the gender gap in STEM by providing financial support and leadership opportunities for talented but financially disadvantaged women across Africa. Beyond financial aid, beneficiaries join a community that encourages mentorship, innovation, and social impact through the foundation’s STEM Outreach Chapters in universities.

Women remain significantly underrepresented in STEM fields across Africa. This scholarship is more than financial support , it’s an investment in the next generation of innovators, problem-solvers, and community leaders who will use STEM to transform Africa’s development landscape.

Scholarship Details
Type: Undergraduate Scholarship
Sponsor: WAAW Foundation
Value: $500 (one-time award)
Eligible Countries: All African nations
Application Opens: October 31, 2025
Deadline: December 1, 2025

Eligibility Criteria
• Must be a female student of African origin living and studying in Africa
• Must be enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree program at an accredited African university or college
• Must be studying a STEM-related course (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics)
• Must be in 1st or 2nd year, or 3rd year if in a 5-year program
• Must be under 32 years old
• Must demonstrate strong academic performance, financial need, and leadership potential
• Must be involved in community service or volunteering activities

• A $500 one-time financial award to support tuition, materials, or living costs
• Access to mentorship and leadership development programs
• Opportunity to join a STEM Outreach Chapter to promote women’s participation in STEM

Tips for a Strong Application
• Write a compelling personal statement highlighting your passion for STEM and community impact
• Include clear examples of your leadership and volunteer activities
• Ensure your documents are complete, clear, and properly labeled
