Presidential Committee Launches ₦10 Million Award to Recognise Excellence in Tax Reform Reporting
Share

The Presidential Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms Committee has announced the introduction of the Excellence in Tax Reform Reporting Award to celebrate journalists and digital influencers whose work promotes accuracy, balance, and clarity in reporting Nigeria’s ongoing tax reforms.

The committee’s chairman made the announcement on Tuesday via X, stating that the initiative aims to strengthen constructive public discourse, counter misinformation, and encourage media coverage that helps citizens understand and trust fiscal reforms.

According to him, the award is open to journalists across print, broadcast, and online platforms, as well as digital influencers, bloggers, and podcasters who have published relevant work between July 1 and December 31, 2025. Entries can be submitted in English, Pidgin, Hausa, Igbo, or Yoruba.

The committee disclosed that winners will receive ₦10 million for the overall prize, ₦5 million for second place, ₦3 million for third place, and consolation prizes for the top 20 finalists. Entries will be evaluated based on accuracy, balance, creativity, clarity, and public engagement.

Applications for the award are expected to open through the official portal, fiscalreforms.ng, on or before December 31, 2025.

The committee noted that the initiative aligns with its broader goal of simplifying Nigeria’s complex tax structure by harmonising multiple taxes and levies into a more transparent and efficient fiscal system.

Beyond recognition, the award is expected to strengthen the relationship between the media and policymakers by promoting informed, data-driven reporting that highlights how fiscal reforms affect citizens and businesses. It also reflects the government’s effort to build trust and accountability through effective communication of its reform agenda.
