The Sokoto State Government has broadened its women-focused empowerment programs to tackle poverty, boost economic inclusion, and strengthen access to education and social support for vulnerable groups across the state.
This follows a humanitarian outreach at the women’s ward of the Specialist Hospital in Sokoto, where food items, relief materials, and cash support were distributed to patients and other women facing economic hardship.
Speaking during the exercise, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Poverty Alleviation said the renewed push aligns with the government’s commitment to strengthening community resilience, improving livelihoods, and ensuring no vulnerable woman or youth is left behind in the state’s development drive.
“Our approach is centered on compassion and sustainable empowerment,” she said. “We are expanding interventions that will equip women with skills, support education, and boost livelihood opportunities across both urban and rural communities.”
She noted that over 250 beneficiaries have already been supported through skill-building initiatives, educational sponsorship, and health assistance, with more programs expected to launch in underserved communities within the coming months.
The Special Adviser also revealed that expansion plans are underway to extend support and humanitarian services to Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps, stressing that the government’s poverty alleviation efforts are designed to cut across social divides irrespective of tribe, religion, or political affiliation.
“We remain committed to helping those in need. Even the smallest intervention can change a life,” she added.
Governor Ahmad Aliyu Sokoto, represented by the Commissioner for Water Resources, reaffirmed the state government’s support for grassroots empowerment and commended ongoing activities targeted at building a stronger, more inclusive,, and economically productive female population.
The State Government said the interventions are part of a long-term strategy to strengthen human capital development and drive sustainable growth, ensuring women, youths, and vulnerable communities can participate more actively in economic opportunities across Sokoto State.
