Transcorp Power Expands Community Empowerment as 75 Graduates Emerge From Its Skills and Enterprise Program
Share

Transcorp Power Plc has received commendation from the Delta State Government following the graduation of 75 beneficiaries from its Vocational Skills Training and Entrepreneur Empowerment Programme, a milestone that strengthens the company’s long-standing commitment to community empowerment and grassroots economic development.

During the graduation ceremony, which also marked the induction of a new cohort, the company announced an expanded bursary scheme that now supports nine undergraduate students from host communities, up from three previously. The state government applauded the company for its consistent investment in human capital development and urged the new graduates to uphold the values of discipline, discipline, and leadership as they begin their entrepreneurial journeys.

The company’s leadership described the event as a celebration of growth and resilience, highlighting that each trainee represents the impact of practical opportunity on economic transformation. The programme was designed to equip participants with marketable skills and entrepreneurial competence across vocations such as tailoring, carpentry, and catering, positioning them to build viable livelihoods and contribute to local development.

Transcorp Power also used the occasion to outline several community projects completed in the past two years, including transformer rehabilitation, the provision of classroom furniture, the donation of ICT facilities, the fencing and safety upgrade of a community school, the reconstruction of a collapsed culvert, and the extension of an electricity distribution network to a developing neighbourhood.

The ceremony featured recognition for outstanding past beneficiaries who have built thriving micro-enterprises since completing the programme, reinforcing the long-term impact of the initiative on income generation and small business growth in the host communities.

Under the VSTEEP initiative, which runs twice yearly, residents of Transcorp Power’s host communities receive training in vocations determined by community needs. Graduates receive seed capital and guidance to help them establish their enterprises, a support structure that has enabled hundreds of beneficiaries to become self-reliant and expand micro-business activities across the area.

The graduation of the 12th and 13th cohorts, alongside the induction of the 14th, attracted traditional leaders, community representatives, government officials, and stakeholders from across the country, reflecting the programme’s reach and growing relevance. Over more than a decade of implementation, the initiative has positioned Transcorp Power as a key driver of sustainable development by investing directly in people and strengthening the economic base of its host communities.

Transcorp Power Plc is one of Nigeria’s major power generation companies and a subsidiary of Transnational Corporation Plc, with investments spanning power, hospitality, and energy. The company maintains that its mission goes beyond energy generation to include empowering communities and fostering economic growth through targeted social interventions.
