The Seeding the Future Global Food System Challenge 2025 is officially open for applications. Hosted by Welthungerhilfe (WHH) and funded by the Seeding The Future Foundation (STF), this global competition supports transformative, scalable, and science-driven solutions that can reshape the global food system to become healthier, more sustainable, and more resilient. Since its launch in 2021, the Challenge has attracted more than 3,500 submissions from over 100 countries, representing universities, research organizations, nonprofits, and early-stage enterprises. Each year, it awards up to $1 million to innovators working at the intersection of nutrition, sustainability, and equitable food access.
About the Challenge
The Seeding the Future Global Food System Challenge seeks bold, high-impact solutions that address the most pressing issues in today’s food ecosystem. The program focuses on envisioning a future where everyone has access to safe, nutritious, and sustainably produced food without exceeding planetary boundaries.
The Challenge encourages collaborative approaches involving researchers, entrepreneurs, NGOs, food scientists, social enterprises, and interdisciplinary teams committed to rethinking how food is grown, distributed, and consumed. By supporting early-stage innovations, it aims to accelerate breakthrough ideas that can influence global food security and long-term environmental health.
Why It Matters
Global food systems are under severe strain, from climate change to resource depletion, nutrition gaps, and rising inequality. These challenges require bold, science-backed innovations that can improve food security while protecting the planet.
The Seeding The Future Challenge matters because it invests in ideas that not only transform food systems but also uplift communities, protect ecological resources, and support healthier diets worldwide. For researchers, entrepreneurs, and early-stage innovators, this opportunity provides the funding and recognition needed to s
