The Africa NextGen Economist Prize 2026 is now open for applications, offering a rare platform for young African economists whose research tackles the continent’s most pressing economic challenges. The prize recognises original work with practical relevance for African policy, development strategies, and economic thought giving awardees financial support, training, and visibility among global decision-makers.
Economics underpins policy decisions that shape growth, employment, trade, and social inclusion. However, solutions crafted outside Africa often miss on local nuances. This prize aims to elevate work rooted in African realities and ensure that innovative scholarship reaches policymakers, institutions, and development practitioners across the continent.
Supporting the next generation of economists helps expand Africa’s capacity to influence economic frameworks, promote inclusive development and inform sustainable strategies for future challenges.
