Lagos State Empowers PWDs in Entrepreneurship and Financial Literacy
Share

The Lagos State Ministry of Wealth Creation and Employment has trained Persons With Disabilities (PWDs) in financial literacy and entrepreneurship skills as part of efforts to promote inclusive economic growth and self-reliance across the state.

The ministry also presented training and empowerment tools to beneficiaries of its Entrepreneurship Training Programme, enabling participants to practically apply the skills acquired during the training and immediately begin income-generating activities.

A statement issued on Monday said the presentation took place during the graduation ceremony of the programme held at the Adeyemi-Bero Auditorium, Alausa, Ikeja. Beneficiaries received start-up tools tailored to their respective trades to support business take-off and long-term sustainability.

Speaking at the event on behalf of the Commissioner for Wealth Creation and Employment, Akinyemi Ajigbotafe, the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Lolade Aina, reaffirmed the Lagos State Government’s commitment to empowering persons with disabilities as active contributors to economic development.

She said the empowerment of PWDs remains a deliberate policy direction under the T.H.E.M.E.S Plus Development Agenda of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, which prioritises job creation, wealth generation, and social inclusion.

According to her, the entrepreneurship training programme was designed to equip beneficiaries with practical entrepreneurial skills, financial management knowledge, and enterprise development capacity, enabling them to transition from dependency to productivity and sustainable wealth creation.

In her goodwill message, the General Manager of the Lagos State Office for Disability Affairs (LASODA), Adenike Oyetunde-Lawal, described the initiative as a demonstration of effective inter-ministerial collaboration in driving inclusive development.

She explained that beneficiaries were selected based on their specific needs following consultations with various disability clusters, ensuring fairness, inclusion, and adequate representation across the programme.

Oyetunde-Lawal urged the trainees to distinguish themselves through professionalism and quality service delivery, noting that excellence would help them compete favourably within their vocations and attract sustained patronage.

Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, Miss Elufisan Ajoke expressed appreciation to the Lagos State Government for combining skills training with the provision of start-up tools, noting that the support would enable participants to practise their trades and earn a living immediately.
