Abia State Government Partners With ACCIMA to Boost MSME Development
Share

The Abia State Government has partnered with the Aba Chamber of Commerce, Mines and Agriculture (ACCIMA) to strengthen the growth of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in the state.

Governor Alex Otti made the announcement in Aba during the investiture of Mazi Jude Nwosu as the 18th President of ACCIMA. Represented by the Commissioner for Trade and Commerce, Mrs Salome Obiukwu, Otti said the partnership underscores the government’s commitment to creating an investment-friendly environment and supporting trade and commerce across Abia.

“This administration has put in place the enabling environment that has made the state investment-friendly and for trade and commerce to thrive,” the governor said. He further urged Nwosu to render selfless service in his new role to help position Abia as a leading state economically.

Nwosu, in his acceptance speech, described ACCIMA as a platform for economic growth, partnerships, and opportunity creation. He expressed optimism about leading the Chamber at a time when Abia is experiencing significant infrastructural development.

“Abia has returned to the global map for good reasons, thanks to the policies and purposeful leadership of the present government,” Nwosu said. “Our agenda is clear: to evangelise the gospel of the new Abia to the world, attract massive investments, amplify the voice of our members, and champion initiatives that drive sustainable development. We will foster collaboration between the public and private sectors to ensure policies and programmes meet the needs of our vibrant business community.”

Nwosu pledged transparency and a commitment to improving existing structures and programmes to further support businesses in the state.

Former ACCIMA President, Chief Geoffrey Uzoagbara, highlighted the Chamber’s achievements during his tenure, including hosting international diplomats such as the British High Commissioner, Vietnamese Ambassador, and US Ambassador to Nigeria, as well as attracting over 35 new members and maintaining strong relationships with regulatory and business organisations, including NAFDAC, SON, and the Nigerian Export Promotion Council.

The partnership between Abia State Government and ACCIMA is expected to drive MSME growth, create investment opportunities, and foster sustainable economic development in the state.
