African Food Changemakers Scaling Export Program

About The SEP

The Scaling Export Program (SEP) seeks to engage an annual cohort of agri-food SMEs to build their capacity to export healthy, nutritious agri-food products across Africa and access international markets, specifically in Europe and North America through training, market exposure, trade linkages, and business support.

Target Participants

Young agribusiness owners who are looking to start or scale their agri-food export businesses.

Who Should Apply

  • Agri-food entrepreneurs formally registered in an African country
  • Businesses that have been in operation for at least two years with proof of existing local demand for the products/commodities
  • Agri-food entrepreneurs that have innovative food products fit for international markets

Countries

All African countries with additional support provided to businesses in Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, and Egypt.

Benefits of Participating in the Program

Upon completion of the program, agribusinesses will:

  • Be able to develop global brands and products fit for African and other international markets
  • Gain practical knowledge on sourcing export contracts for their agri-food produce and products
  • Understand the export transaction process and develop negotiation and relationship management skills for international trade
  • Start/scale an efficient and profitable export business that is sustainable and can withstand external shocks
  • Build strategic partnerships with stakeholders to shape policies for export-led growth

Participants Commitments

This training program is valued at over 1,500 USD. However, with the support of our funder, the cost has been fully covered. Nonetheless, participants must commit to:

Attending all weekly live interactive sessions with practical experts

Completing the online training modules

Submitting all assignments and actively engaging in interactions with other participants in the learning community

Completing all the pre and post-program surveys and sending periodic updates and reporting about their export activities in three months, six months, a year, and two years after the program.

ONLY PARTICIPANTS WHO COMPLETE THE FULL PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS WILL RECEIVE FORMAL CERTIFICATES OF PARTICIPATION AND BENEFIT FROM THE ONGOING SUPPORT THAT AFC OFFERS.
