Africa Fashion Week London 2023 marked a groundbreaking moment for Medium, Small, and Micro Enterprises (MSMEs), especially those led by women and young entrepreneurs. The inaugural UK Africa Trade Expo (UKATE), held at The Institute of Directors in Central London, aimed to foster economic growth, empower women and youth entrepreneurs, and catalyze transformative change through international trade development.
Themed “Bringing Culture and Commerce Together for Sustainable Development,” the UKATE featured high-profile panel discussions, interactive sessions, and dignitaries from various African embassies, educational institutions, and renowned business organizations. His Imperial Majesty, Ooni Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, virtually opened the event, commending Prince Kamari Ademiluyi, founder of UK Africa Trade Expo London, and his team for their successful efforts.
The UKATE unveiled six key pillars: Connectivity & Innovation, Data & Market Innovation, Cluster & Sector Transfer, and Infrastructure Investment & Joint Veterans. These pillars aim to integrate sustainability, social value, and environmental considerations within competitive markets, fostering collaboration, trust, and cooperation.
The expo featured 19 esteemed guest speakers covering diverse topics, from fashion to cutting-edge technology, innovative farming, and uplifting the lives of the less privileged, especially women and young people. With a focus on leveraging the UK’s historical ties to Commonwealth countries, the UKATE provides MSMEs with a unique opportunity to drive transformational change in local and regional ecosystems through international trade development.
Held on October 27th, 2023, the maiden UKATE drew the participation of high-ranking administrators, business leaders, and individuals, including key cabinet members from the Bauchi government and representatives from elite brands such as Providus Bank, Kings College, and Henley Business School. The expo stands as a catalyst for beneficial collaborations among stakeholders, paving the way for increased economic opportunities for MSMEs.
