Aliko Dangote Foundation Distributes Over One Million Bags of Rice Across Nigerian States
Share

The Aliko Dangote Foundation has initiated the distribution of 80,000 bags of 10kg rice to vulnerable individuals in Lagos State as part of its broader commitment to support communities across Nigeria.

Aliko Dangote, President of Dangote Group and Chairman of the foundation, highlighted that this gesture was part of a larger initiative aiming to distribute over one million 10kg bags of rice to one million vulnerable people across the 774 local government areas in the country.

During the flag-off ceremony in Lagos, Dangote emphasized that this distribution was a testament to the foundation’s dedication to compassion and solidarity, aiming to alleviate some of the burdens faced by vulnerable communities in Lagos. Additionally, he mentioned the daily distribution of 12,500 loaves of bread in Lagos as part of the foundation’s ongoing efforts.

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, commended Dangote for his numerous initiatives aimed at alleviating the suffering of Nigerians. He praised Dangote for prioritizing the welfare of the people over profit, emphasizing the significance of such gestures, particularly during challenging times.

Dangote expressed that while the traditional Ramadan food distribution had focused on the Muslim community, the current circumstances demanded a broader approach to support communities of all faiths across Nigeria. Therefore, the foundation extended its Ramadan initiative to cover all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

Zouera Youssoufou, CEO of the Aliko Dangote Foundation, highlighted the collaboration with credible organizations, civil societies, and religious bodies to ensure the donations reached the most vulnerable individuals in Lagos.

The distribution of food items comes amidst protests in some states against economic hardship, rising inflation, and the high cost of living following recent policy changes. In response, various stakeholders have implemented measures such as palliative distributions to alleviate the impact of these challenges. In Lagos, for instance, the state government initiated “Ounje Eko” food markets, offering discounted prices on essential food items across the five divisions of the state.
