The Aliko Dangote Foundation (ADF) has commenced the distribution of over one million bags of 10kg rice across 774 local governments in Nigeria, with 17 states already receiving their shares.
Zouera Youssoufou, the Managing Director and CEO of ADF affirmed the Foundation’s commitment to ensuring that all local governments in Nigeria receive their allocations before the end of the Ramadan period. She emphasized that the Foundation collaborates with credible NGOs, civil societies, and religious bodies to ensure equitable distribution to the most vulnerable populations across all states and local governments.
Youssoufou reiterated the Foundation’s vision of empowering Africans to achieve self-actualization and full potential, emphasizing that every individual deserves the opportunity to thrive and succeed regardless of their circumstances.
The recent distribution exercise was flagged off in Kano and Lagos, with Aliko Dangote, Dangote Group’s President and ADF’s chairman, present at both ceremonies. Dangote reaffirmed his resolve to assist all tiers of government in poverty alleviation efforts in Nigeria, emphasizing the importance of compassion and solidarity in addressing economic challenges.
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State commended Dangote’s philanthropic efforts and urged other wealthy Nigerians to emulate his example by supporting government initiatives to provide palliatives for citizens during economic hardships.
Similarly, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State praised the Foundation’s prioritization of welfare over profit, highlighting the significance of the distribution of 80,000 bags of rice in Lagos.
Fatima Aliko-Dangote, Group Executive Director of Commercial Operations at Dangote Industries Limited (DIL), highlighted the Foundation’s multifaceted interventions, including daily distribution of 2,500 loaves of bread in Lagos and financial support for women entrepreneurs. She emphasized the Foundation’s commitment to investing in initiatives that uplift communities and foster economic empowerment.
