In a groundbreaking move to empower Nigerian female students and promote sustainable agricultural development, the Association of Nigerian Female Students (ANFS) has signed a momentous Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Girl for Leadership, Politics, and Government (G4LP) and African Women Economic Development.
The collaborative effort aims to equip Nigerian female students with the knowledge and skills necessary for sustainable farming practices, thereby contributing to the expansion, enhancement, and demonstration of sustainable agriculture in the country. By adopting a students-farmers training approach, the initiative seeks to bolster farm yields, ensuring food security for the nation.
A major focus of the partnership is to prioritize vital crops such as Rice, Cassava, Maize, Soybeans, and Yam, offering inputs subsidies to support their cultivation. The goal is to support the agricultural sector and contribute to the country’s food self-sufficiency.
In addition to promoting sustainable agriculture, the collaboration will also center on building capacity in women, preparing them for leadership roles, and nurturing entrepreneurship skills. By empowering female students with leadership training and entrepreneurship education, the initiative aspires to break barriers and create opportunities for women at all levels of government and entrepreneurship.
Girl for Leadership, Politics, and Government (G4LP) and African Women Economic Development, as non-governmental organizations, are dedicated to mainstreaming the girl child and young leaders in the realms of governance and entrepreneurship. Their primary mission revolves around safeguarding the dignity and integrity of the female gender, fostering leadership excellence, and advancing sustainable development in Nigeria and beyond.
Following the signing ceremony, Princess Ominiyi, the ANFS President, expressed her enthusiasm for the partnership and commended the foundations for their unwavering commitment to positively impacting society. She urged female students to cultivate productivity and self-development, breaking free from gender discrimination and becoming valuable contributors to society.
As the largest percentage of the Nigerian population, female students hold the potential to reshape the nation’s trajectory, reclaiming the lost glory of the Nigerian girl child as the beacon of hope for the country’s future, Ominiyi proclaimed.
The Executive Directors of G4LP and African Women Economic Development, Mrs. Ruby Ross and Mr. Lugard Okonobo, respectively, lauded the ANFS President-elect and her executives for their courage and passion in elevating the association to new heights. They expressed their commitment to supporting the welfare and growth of female students, pledging their unwavering dedication to empowering the girl child.
This formidable partnership marks a crucial step toward creating a more inclusive, sustainable, and empowered future for Nigerian female students, positioning them to lead and contribute significantly to the nation’s progress and development.
