Introduction:
The Agile Legal-Tech Network, in partnership with The Tech Court, has launched the 2025 TAL Community Essay Competition. This initiative provides a platform for students, researchers, and professionals to share fresh perspectives on pressing technology and data challenges.

Key Highlights:

* Topic: Data Minimisation in the Age of Big Models
* Eligibility: Students, researchers, and professionals with an interest in technology
* Top Prize: ₦200,000 cash award for the winner
* Other Benefits: Free slots at The Tech Court for the top five participants, recognition in the TAL-tech community
* Deadline: October 30, 2025

The competition tackles the timely issue of data minimisation as artificial intelligence and big models expand their influence across industries. For Africa’s digital innovators, this contest is more than an academic exercise; it is a chance to influence conversations on responsible data use and ethical innovation.

Engaging with this theme not only strengthens participants’ critical thinking but also positions them as thought leaders in the intersection of law, technology, and society. For MSMEs and startups, the insights from this competition could guide how they adopt AI while safeguarding user trust.

Tips for Applicants:

  •  Go beyond technical definitions by linking your essay to real-world impacts, such as privacy, trust, and innovation in Africa
  • Avoid relying on AI tools to generate your submission, as entries must reflect original thought.
  • Proofread carefully to ensure clarity, structure, and strong argumentation.
  • Show creativity by offering solutions or frameworks that balance technological progress with ethical responsibility.
