BirdPreneur Empowers Over 5,000 Farmers, Redefines Poultry Innovation and Food Security in Nigeria
Share

BirdPreneur, a Nigerian agritech and poultry innovation enterprise, has become one of the country’s most transformative agricultural platforms, empowering thousands of farmers and agripreneurs to boost food production, create jobs, and strengthen Nigeria’s poultry value chain.

Founded with the mission to democratise poultry farming and advance sustainable food systems, BirdPreneur operates an integrated platform that enables individuals, cooperatives, and corporate organisations to raise birds more efficiently, lower production costs, and improve meat and egg output nationwide.

Since its inception, the enterprise has achieved remarkable milestones, gaining both national and international recognition for its contributions to agricultural transformation and rural development. The organisation reports that more than 5,000 farmers have benefited from its intervention programmes, while over 1,500 have received intensive training in climate-smart poultry production, feed optimisation, and waste-to-resource innovation, all geared toward enhancing productivity and resilience against climate shocks.

BirdPreneur has also extended affordable agricultural loans, market access, and technical support to smallholder farmers, addressing persistent barriers such as limited access to credit, high input costs, and unstable market prices. Through its flagship BirdPreneur Program, hundreds of young Nigerians and graduates have been trained in modern poultry management, equipping them to build sustainable agribusinesses and reduce rural unemployment.

One of the programme’s beneficiaries, Amina Yusuf, a graduate-turned-farmer from Oyo State, said BirdPreneur’s support transformed her business. “Before BirdPreneur, I struggled to keep my small poultry farm afloat because of high feed prices and lack of proper guidance. After joining their training program, I learned climate-smart methods that cut my production costs by nearly 30%. Today, I employ four workers and supply eggs to schools and local restaurants. BirdPreneur gave me more than training—it gave me a future,” she said.

The enterprise’s innovation and social impact have also drawn global recognition. In 2018, BirdPreneur was selected among five international startups to join the Iowa AgriTech Accelerator, a US-based programme supported by industry leaders such as John Deere, DuPont Pioneer, Kent Corporation, and Farmers Mutual Hail. That same year, it received €15,000 in seed funding from the Fledge Accelerator, a global impact investment network headquartered in Seattle, which helped expand its farmer outreach, pilot new technologies, and scale climate-smart training initiatives across Nigerian states.

Today, BirdPreneur stands as a regional leader in agricultural transformation and inclusive growth, attracting interest from policymakers, development partners, and private-sector stakeholders for its technology-driven extension services, cooperative financing, and sustainability-focused production models.

Its work aligns with global efforts to build resilient food systems amid growing climate and economic challenges. The organisation continues to collaborate with farm cooperatives, local governments, and international partners to expand its reach across West Africa.

With a growing national footprint and measurable impact, BirdPreneur is redefining what is possible within Africa’s agricultural landscape, offering a practical, scalable model for reducing poverty, creating jobs, and advancing food security.
